Equipment

What kind of equipment does my daughter need to play in the DGSA?

  • The DGSA provides shirts for Spring Ball and t-shirts for Fall Ball. Girls are responsible for their own shorts or pants, fielding gloves, batting helmet WITH FACEMASKS (required), fielding masks, bat and shoes. We REQUIRE fielding masks at all ages, especially for infielders. Player safety is of the utmost importance to us. Please feel free to download the DGSA Equipment Checklist below!

Why a facemask?

  • Disastrous things can happen -- especially in the infield -- to girls who take a softball to the face while not wearing a mask. It's not difficult to find very graphic videos on YouTube that show just how fast it happens and the extent of the damage. We don't want our DGSA girls suffering head injuries, broken bones, damaged eyes, scars or anything else that can be prevented by a face mask. At the younger ages, girls don't have the skills or reaction times yet to defend themselves from a hard hit or a weird bounce. At the older ages, girls can really crank the ball off the bat at high speeds. It's the same concept as seatbelts and airbags in cars -- most of the time, you don't need them, but when you do, you're glad to have them.
