Attention, DGSA parents!
It has come to our attention that Twin Bridges Road--the road that runs by the Danville Kroger up to the landfill and then curves into CR 150 E.--is going to be under construction beginning today (Monday) or tomorrow for an unknown length of time.
If you come to the ball diamonds from that direction, it's best to find an alternate route, so that you approach the fields from CR 200 S., instead.
One option is to turn south on Tennessee Street from Main Street / Rockville Road / US 36 at the Speedway. Take Tennessee about 5 or 6 blocks until it intersects with Cartersburg Road. Take Cartersburg Road south of town until it intersects with CR 200 S. at the four-way stop. Turn left, and you'll see the diamonds at the top of the first hill on your left.
Another option is to turn south on CR 200 E. from US 36, right by the GreenCycle McCarty Mulch place, just east of town. Cross the railroad tracks and head south on CR 200 E. It'll bend and curve and become CR 225 E., but you're on the right road. Two miles south of US 36, CR 225 E. meets up with CR 200 S. Turn right (it's the only way you can turn). Head west on CR 200 S. until you see the diamonds on your right (about 3/4 of a mile).
See you at the softball fields!
Mother Nature clearly didn't get the memo that we wanted to start our 2012 season this week, so we'll try this again on Thursday.
The following rained out games are now scheduled for Thursday, May 3:
8U: Team Williams (Danville 1) at Team Arthur (Danville 2), Diamond 1, 6pm
8U: Team Taylor (Danville 3) at Team Harmless (Danville 4), Diamond 4, 6pm
6U: Team Grommer (Danville 1) at Team Phipps (Danville 2), Diamond 2, 6:30pm
6U: Team Wambach (Danville 3) at Team Frazier (Danville 4), Diamond 3, 6:30pm
10U: Team Porter (Danville 1) at Team Rinehart (Danville 2), Diamond 1, 7:15pm
In 10U, the Team Jones (Danville 3) at Team Wambach (Danville 4) game from Monday, April 30, will be made up at a later, yet undecided, date.
In 6U, Team Grommer (Danville 1) and Team Phipps (Danville 2) were already scheduled to play against each other on Thursday night after playing against each other on Tuesday night, thanks to a variety of scheduling issues that would bore you to hear about. Coach Grommer and Coach Phipps can decide amongst themselves whether or not they want to have a double-header on Thursday night.
Thank you for your patience, and we'll see everyone at the ballpark on Thursday night!
Got a dirty car? Know of some friends, family, and neighbors who could use a car wash? Then this year's DGSA fundraiser will work out perfectly for everyone!
The DGSA will be selling coupons to Mike's Express Car Wash from now until May 30. Coupons cost $8 a piece and will entitle its purchaser to an Express Wash at Mike's.
Here's how the fundraiser works. Download the attached form and take your daughter(s) around to collect orders and payment from anyone you can find: friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, complete strangers in dark alleys in the middle of the night..... (Okay, maybe not the last one.) But get out there and sell those coupons! After all, everyone likes a clean car, and the DGSA is making money off each coupon!
With that money, the DGSA is able to provide our girls with nice equipment, nice fields, nice facilities, new uniforms, and brand new Ferrari to each of them! (Okay, maybe not the last one.) The money we raise through this fundraiser is truly quite important to keeping our association functioning and making the entire softball experience as positive as we can for our daughters.
Once the order form is filled up and the money collected, turn both in to your coach. The coach will then turn the forms and money in to Robin Wambach or Stacy Frazier at the concessions stand and retrieve the appropriate number of car wash coupons.
It's probably a good idea to make yourself a copy of the completed order form, so you can remember who you need to distribute the coupons to. We don't recommend making yourself a copy of the money, however. Apparently, the feds frown on that. Something about counterfeiting, federal crime, Leavenworth... I don't know. It all sounds quite unpleasant, so just make yourself a copy of the order form and not the money.
Pass those car wash coupons out to those who ordered them, and then everyone's happy! The recipients of the coupons can get their cars nice and clean, and the DGSA has the funds to purchase things like catcher's gear, softballs, concessions equipment, paint, and 500,000-square-foot mansions with in-ground pools for every parent! (Okay, maybe not the last one.)
Please remember that the order forms and money need to be turned in by May 30, and all attempts at humor aside, the DGSA really appreciates everyone's help with this very important project.
You know what? Let's make this interesting. The team that sells the most Mike's Car Wash coupons during this fundraiser will get a free pizza party. How about that? No joke. The DGSA would like to express its appreciation to the hardest-working team out there by treating them to some free pizza for their efforts. Sound good?
Let's get selling!
Mark your calendars...

Below is a copy of the Volunteer Background Check form that must be completed and returned by Monday, April 9th at the very latest. We would really like these all back by Wednesday, April 4th. This is required for all coaches and your assistant coach. We do not know who everyone's assistant coaches are, so please forward this to them to complete as well. The DGSA Board and its members have agreed that conducting background checks is the first step in protecting the safety of each and every girl. To that end, please review, complete and return a completed form by Monday, April 9th (Mandatory Coaches) meeting.
The following items will be reviewed as part of the volunteer background check, and completed by Safe Hiring Solutions out of Danville, IN.
Social Security Verification
National Criminal History Database Search (300+ million records).
Multi-State Sex Offender Registry Search (records from 50 states and Washington D.C.)
County Criminal Search
We are having a mandatory coaches meeting for all 6U and 8U teams on Monday, April 9th at the cabin which is located on in the woods on the north end of the Soccer Diamonds.
We will have equipment bags available for all coaches this evening so please be there between 6:15 and 7:00 to get your equipment bags.
We will have practice schedules completed by the end of the week. Hopefully everyone has contacted your teams by now.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
The Danville Girls Softball League will be holding its Skills Evaluations on Tuesday March 13th from 6:30pm to 9:00pm at the High school Gym for all 6U and 8U girls (coach pitch). We will be holding evaluations for 10U, 12U, and 14U leagues on Thursday March 15th from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. All girls need to wear rubber soled shoes (no cleats) and bring their mitts.
If you cannot attend on the evening your daughters age group was assigned but can attend the other, please do so and we will accommodate you. We go through this exercise to ensure the teams are put together as fair as possible, so please attend if possible.
We will also be holding our final registration those evenings, so if you know anyone who may be interested and has not signed up, please let them know this will be our final evenings for registration.
We are also pleased to announce that we are in development of a new website where we will be posting information about our league and its activities moving forward. We have already posted a lot of information there, and more will follow. You can visit our site at www.danvillesoftball.org. DGSA would like to give a special thanks to Red Zone Writing for the development of our site. You can visit their site at www.redzonewriting.com.
On our new site, we have a tab that lists our current sponsors, and we hope to be adding more soon. We have a lot of projects planned for this year, and without them, these projects couldn't happen, so we hope you will support our sponsors. If you have a local business and would be interested in sponsoring our league or a team, please let us know. All info regarding this is posted on our site under the sponsors tab.
PS Coaches, if you are interested in helping with evaluations please send us an E-mail.
Thanks, DGSA Board
Just a reminder that the Danville Softball Skills and Drills Camp is Thursday, March 1st from 6-8pm. This camp will be held in the upper west balcony of the Main Gym as well as the main gym floor. It will consist of one hour of hitting drills and one hour of fielding drills. All campers will need to bring their glove, bat, and helmet. They will need to wear tennis shoes as well. If you have not already attended a camp in the past, you will need to fill out an information sheet, which is attached below, and bring it with you to camp if at all possible. Money will be due at the time of camp. Please let me know if you have any other questions, and I look forward to meeting everyone on Thursday!
